The Emperor Honorarius has cancelled the gladiatorial games. As he has said, the Coliseum is “bleeding red and that must stop.” And so Coliseum Conquest is cancelled.
What does this means to players of Coliseum Conquest?
• Coliseum (www.coliseumconquest.com & related URLs) will be taken offline in late December 2013. This means the game will no longer function in any way, shape or form. The URL will redirect to a list of other SHG games.
• As of now, you will no longer be able to support the game Coliseum through purchase of Favore. This to ensure players do not unknowingly buy and then be unable to use it.
What if I bought Favore?
Players who bought Favore in Coliseum in 2013 will be provided equal value of points (or the equivalent) in any of our other games. There are some steps to verify this – if you bought in 2013, raise a ticket in the SHG game you are interested in transfering that credit to, along with your name in Coliseum, and after verification tests, we will credit you!
There is no legal need to provide compensation, but we want to be fair back to those who have been supporters of Snakehead Games. Those who have bought Favore before 2013 will not receive any compensation. Those players have had ample time to enjoy the game.
Why is this action being taken?
Economic realities. Simply put not enough players enjoy and support the game Coliseum. It is a money losing game. Loyalty to supporters meant we kept it alive, and even added series of upgrades, but there comes a time where the invisible hand of Adam Smith gives us a smack across both cheeks – the wakeup call to face facts, and close the game. Hard facts: Coliseum rarely covered its server cost and never any of its development or support costs. This is unfair on the games that do have loyal players who support them – those games deserve and can afford extra new additions.
This should come as no surprise to anyone involved in Coliseum – active players know the economic issues as it has been a part of the shoutbox chatter for months.
Does SHG Enjoy Being a Grim Reaper?
NO! We are proud of Coliseum and have a strong loyalty to the community there. Closing a game is never fun, and this is the first game shuttered by Snakehead Games Inc. (although the game www.baneworld.com that we gave to another organization has since been shut). There are no plans, or issues that would require us to do this with other browser-based SHG titles.
Why Doesn’t SHG Leave it Live?
Clean breaks are best. Having games live means GameMastering the games; at the very least we need to actively look at multiaccounts, exploits etc. That takes time. We’d also have to rip out any kind of social interaction between players such as the shoutbox etc.
And that would turn it into something SHG isn’t proud of. We won’t have that.
Thank you!
Thank you to our loyal players who supported Coliseum and all our other games with their hard earned cash, so that we could build something, and we’re truly sorry it didn’t work out the way we all wanted.
We expect to use this freed time to build games that you do enjoy. Stay tuned for exciting news from SHG! We have a lot in the works and some great things to reveal in the near future!!
